Why I Write Fantasy Books

Some have asked, "Why choose an Ogre as your protagonist?" The Trilogy of the Guardian of the Faewild, is a story of an ill-fated hero's journey; of a foundling ogre who was hated from birth by all of the Faewild for the death and destruction caused by his kind. Delivered to three forest dwarves to be raised in secret to learn the ways of the Fae, there are many who plot for his failure. He is to be prepared to prove his worthiness to fulfill a Prophesy and save the Realm. But first he must survive the test of the "Little Death."For an Ogre to overcome their natural monster-self to potentially evolve to a higher-minded, spiritual being making a difference in the world, is fairly inconceivable. Some would say it is completely impossible. So to choose an Ogre to become the Guardian of the Faewild, seemed perfectly impossible enough for my story. I think we all have a little of the ogre within us - a shadow or obstacle that can obscure or overwhelm our understanding to who we really are and what our true potential is for making a difference in the world. The Shadow can be elusive and highly persuasive. It can become so familiar, it's lies becoming the tomes we believe are protecting us from failure, pain or rejection. It holds us back, blocking us from seeing our true inner strength, capacity and creativity. We cannot silence its whispers of unworthiness, impossibilities and weakness as it drowns out our desires for something more. To walk away from this dark, yet familiar companion, and step into the unknown can feel like a "little death" from all you have ever known yourself to be. My books are dedicated to encourage all of the magnificent (and magical) beings who choose the more difficult, rocky, and unpredictable Hero's Journey in life to identify and tame that inner-monster within in order to fulfill their higher spiritual calling in the world while having a little fun along the way.
